ITD is administering the Western Hemisphere Institutes through funding from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State. The Institutes consist of six five-week programs for groups of Latin American university student leaders. The goal of these Institutes is to deepen selected students’ understanding of U.S. culture and society, and to broaden their leadership ability. Under the ITD grant, Institutes will be conducted in January - February by ITD in Amherst, Massachusetts for Argentina, Chile and Uruguay; at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for Brazil; and at the University of Arizona in Tucson for Bolivia, Paraguay and Peru. Later in the year, Summer Institutes will take place in these same institutions for other Latin American countries.
